More About Whole Body Cryotherapy

Whole Body Cryotherapy was developed in Japan in its current form by Dr. Toshima Yamaguchi in 1978 to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Within several years, the medical community recognized cryotherapy benefits beyond treating arthritis and began using it more broadly to treat soft tissue pain, inflammation, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, increase metabolism, and to revitalize skin.

When we go outside on a cold day the air that the body is exposed to is filled with moisture. With cryotherapy the body is still exposed to cold air but the process is dry. This allows the temperatures to be much colder without extreme discomfort unlike stepping outside on a cold winter day.

Whole body cryotherapy is safer, healthier, and more effective than a traditional ice bath. This process exposes the body to hyper cooled air -200°F to -240°F, triggering the body’s natural healing mechanisms as though it were freezing. Blood will accumulate in the body’s core in order to become warmed, and the body’s capillaries will expand to approximately 4 times their normal diameter. White blood cells will flow through the body faster, accelerating the healing process by up to 50%. The brain will trigger a release of endorphins, adrenaline, and other hormones into the body. During this process, which last 2 – 3 minutes, the brain stimulates the body’s organ regulatory functions resulting in increased energy, cell rejuvenation, immune system boost, and overall system self-healing.

Our state of the art Whole Body Cryotherapy sauna delivers an effective 360 degree cryotherapy treatment. Adding further credibility to the chambers effectiveness, it is the only sauna in the world approved by the European Union for doctor prescribed cryotherapy treatments.

One of the effects of Cryotherapy that is attributed to its promising benefits is vasoconstriction that reduces the circulation to the affected area. Vasoconstriction slows down the body’s metabolism and reduces its demand for oxygen. Aside from this, cold application or cooling below 68°F (20°C), also helps retain the heat in our body and reduce acetylcholine production. Thus, relieving congestion and muscle spasm. On the other hand, the analgesic effect of cold therapy is related to its counterirritant action, its influence on the nerve endings, and its ability to reduce metabolic activity. During a cold therapy, the skin temperature drops almost immediately, which is subsequently followed by a decrease in subcutaneous temperature. However, structures beneath the subcutaneous layer are much less efficiently cooled. As a result, the patient experiences cold perception followed by aching or burning sensation and cutaneous anesthesia (Pfiedler Enterprises, 2014).

I’ve been to a few other local cryo places and this is hands down the best one. Super clean and great atmosphere. On top of that, Kayla is absolutely awesome and beyond friendly. I go weekly for sauna and cryo and will certainly continue.

Place was recommended by a friend of mine and smashed my expectations! Tried cryotherapy for the first time and the pain in my legs just went away. Kayla guided me through the whole process and was brilliant. The in-house aesthetician also sorted out my eyebrows and did an amazing job at fixing what seemed to be a lost cause :) All in all great experience, would definitely recommend!

As a recent Cancer Survivor and Ex Division I college athlete who stills play Tennis 4x per week this is one of the best ways to recover. It's also the only true medical Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. The alternative while gets cold is just an air conditioned box which can be claustrophobic to some. I've been doing Fire and Ice 2x per week for several months and with a change in diet and working out its helped me loose over 35 lbs. It's helped with stress, travel recovery, blood pressure and detox. I have more energy and am sleeping better. I would recommend this to anyone at any age.
